3 Tips to Kick-Start Your New Facebook Page

By Fanny Barrientos

Hooray! You’ve decided to start a Facebook Page! Or maybe you’ve had it but now you really want to use it. Although we’re handling the bulk of the content for you, there are some things that you can do boost the effectiveness of the content that we provide. Here are a few tips to help kick start your Facebook page.

1. Think about branding

Although we provide skins for your Facebook page, it’s nice to rotate your images once in a while. Facebook pages require a cover photo that will appear on the very top across the entire page and a thumbnail where you can display your logo. The cover photo should be something that really grabs followers’ attention since it’s the first thing they will see when they load your business page. Think of this as an opportunity to make a good first impression. What would you like your fans to see? If want to make your page more personable, you can upload a professional photo of your staff (these do really well). If you prefer to highlight the practice you can upload a photo of the building instead, preferably with your business name displayed. Just make sure that the dimensions of the photos you choose work with the dimensions that Facebook requires. Nobody likes a pixelated picture!

2. Add personable content

Once your business page you may feel an impulse to start reeling in those page likes by inviting everyone that you know to like your page. However, when your page is new you need to have some content on the page so that followers have something to engage with. That means having content up before you invite people to your page.

If you were a follower, what kinds of images would you want to see? What kinds of links would you be interested in following? What videos would be interesting to watch? Chances are, if you wouldn’t like/comment/share the content on your page, neither will your followers. Remember, keep your page interesting with infographics, photos of your firm, clients, or staff, links to interesting or newsworthy articles, etc. Followers like a variety of content that they can relate to so make sure you give it to them. Once you have a nice variety, invite people to your page.

3. Measure your performance

What is the point of putting so much effort into making a business page and not keeping track of results? A good way to measure how you are performing is by using Facebook Insights. Insights will show you reach, engagement, and likes. It will also show you who your audience is so that you can cater your content accordingly. Use insights to set goals like “one new page-like per day,”  while keeping in mind that it will take a while to figure out what is attainable for your page. Don’t be afraid to dig in to statistics to try understand the analytics. This is what let’s you know how your page is doing and what you are getting out of it.
